House on the Rock in Costa Brava
Residential

House built on the rock and by the sea, in Roses

Location: Roses, Alt Empordà (Girona, Catalonia)

Year of Construction: 2005-2007
Surface of the site: 1.098m2
Built Area: 364m2

Adequacy of the work to the environment: The steep slope of the land has formed a house embedded in the ground, which winds, and outwards opens all the windows to the sea.

Uniqueness and character: The main aspect revolves around the two-storey glass fan on a solid stone base, so the white and ethereal upper body takes on all the lightness of a house by the sea.

Resource economy: The direction of the stone veins was previously analyzed to see if the excavation would be economical, only after the excavation was carried out. Double-sided formwork retaining walls to prevent cost overruns due to concrete shrinkage. Unification and modeling of carpentry. Exterior stone based on stackable molds.

Rigor in the technical aspects of maintenance and savings: The whole house can be easily repainted in white, the railings are made of stainless steel to avoid oxidation problems by salts, numerous drains have been planned around the perimeter of the house to be able to evacuate excessive waters in times of torrential rains. Energy savings are enhanced by the installation of horizontal slats that protect from direct sunlight.
